Privacy Policy

Voxpen is built on a simple principle: your voice is yours. The app was designed so that we could not read your dictations even if we wanted to, because they never reach us.

Your audio and transcriptions

All recording and transcription happens locally on your Mac using on-device AI models (NVIDIA Parakeet and OpenAI Whisper, running on the Apple Neural Engine). Your audio is processed in memory and is never uploaded, stored on our servers, or shared with anyone. Transcription history is stored only in a local database on your Mac, and you can delete it at any time from the app.

Optional cloud engines

If you explicitly configure a cloud engine (Deepgram or OpenAI) with your own API key, audio for those dictations is sent directly from your Mac to that provider under your own account and their privacy policy. This is off by default, and the default local engines never do this.

What we do collect

Voxpen uses TelemetryDeck for anonymous, aggregate usage analytics — things like "a transcription happened" and its word count. This never includes your audio, your transcribed text, or anything that identifies you. TelemetryDeck is a privacy-focused, GDPR-compliant service that does not track users across apps. The app also checks for updates via Sparkle, which fetches a version file from our server; no personal data is sent.

Permissions

Voxpen asks for microphone access (to hear you) and accessibility access (to paste transcribed text into the app you're using). Both are used solely for those purposes.

The website

voxpen.co uses standard, privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic. If you join the mailing list, we store your email address only to send you product updates, and every email includes an unsubscribe link.
